UNCG 12th after second round of Bryan National
BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. – UNCG shaved six strokes off its first-day score with an even 300 on Saturday and sits 12th after two rounds of the Bryan National Collegiate, which the Spartans are co-hosting with Wake Forest. Freshman Fanny Cnops moved up eight spots in the individual standings into a tie for fifth.
Cnops fired a 2-under 70 Saturday, tied for the second-best score of the day. Only tournament leader Jessica Negron of Florida State, who shot a 69, fared better on day two. Cnops has a two-day total of 143.
Ana Lucia Martinez also charged up the leaderboard from 28th to 14th. Martinez shot a second-round 73 and has a 36-hole total of 148.
Begona Sarabia moved up two spots into a tie for 70th, firing a 77 to push her total to 157. Courtney Taylor is not far behind in 76th (79-80=159) and Berglind Bjornsdottir is tied for 87th (79-86=165). Kelly Berry, playing as an individual, shaved eight strokes off her score from Friday and is in 93rd place (98-90=188).
Tennessee (293-291=584) moved to the top of the team leaderboard Saturday, while day-one leader Northwestern plummeted to eighth (290-305=595). All 11 teams ahead of the Spartans in the standings are ranked in the top 47 nationally. UNCG leads 24th-ranked Michigan State (13th place, 310-300=610) and 38th-ranked Kentucky (14th, 304-309=613) in the 17-team field.
The third and final round from the Players Course at Bryan Park will get under way Sunday morning.
