Women's Golf Continues Play At The Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – The UNCG women's golf team continued its solid showing at the 2012 Cougar Classic posting a 301 team score on day two of the prestigious three-day event at Yeamans Hall Club to sit in a tie for 19th place overall. The Spartans' 601 two-day score (300-301) is 16 shots better than last year's two-day total at the Cougar Classic as it posted a 617 (305-312). The final 18 holes will begin Tuesday morning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

Florida leads the stellar field that includes 15 of the top 25 teams in the nation, posting a 279 Monday to move 11-under par as a team with a score of 565 (286-279). Southern California is second with a 568 (285-283), Vanderbilt is third with a 574 (289-285) while Virginia and Auburn are tied for fourth with a score of 576.
 
Sophomore Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) posted a team-best even par-72 Monday morning to stay at 2-over 146, sitting in a tie for 35th place overall. Bjornsdottir recorded two birdies over her final four holes to secure the even-par effort for the day.
 
UNCG sophomore golfer Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) fired a 2-over par 74 Monday after posting an even par-72 in the opening round. Cnops enters the final round in a tie for 28th place to lead the Spartans in the event.  
 
Senior Courtney Taylor (Gastonia, N.C/Ashbrook) is tied for 93rd with a 154 (75-79). Freshmen Samantha Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) is tied for 114th place with a 157 (79-78) while classmate Lily Crane (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) is tied for 123rd overall with a 159 (81-78).
