Women's Golf Concludes Play At Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. – The UNCG women's golf team concluded play at the prestigious Cougar Classic posting a team score of 913 (300-301-312) in the three-day event at Yeamans Hall Club to finish 22nd overall in the field that include 15 of the top 20 ranked teams in NCAA Division I. The Spartans' 913 score (300-301) surpasses last year's total at the Cougar Classic as it posted a 915 (305-312-298).

Florida won the event shooting a three-day total of 12-under par 852 (286-279-287) to post a six-shot victory. Duke finished second with an 858 (286-291-281) while Southern California rounded out the top three with an 863 score (285-283-295). Florida's Camilla Hedberg won the individual title with a 13-under par 203 as she shot a 69, 66 and 68 on the three days.
 
Sophomore Fanny Cnops (Gent, Belgium/K.A. Voskenslaan) finished the tournament tied for 25th overall with a 2-over 218 (72-73-73) over the three rounds. Cnops posted the Spartans' top score Tuesday, firing a 1-over par 73 rallying from an rough early start that saw her drop four shots in the first six holes. She posted three birdies in her final eight holes to pull back to a 1-over par round.
 
Sophomore Berglind Bjornsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn I Reykjavik) finished the event tied for 59th place with a 224 (74-72-78).
 
Freshman Samantha Buchanan (Bluffton, S.C./Bluffton) posted a 236 (79-78-79) to finish 109th while senior Courtney Taylor (Gastonia, N.C/Ashbrook) finished with a 237 (78-79-80) and Lily Crane (Jamestown, N.C./Ragsdale) rounded out the UNCG scores with a 241 (81-78-84).
 
UNCG returns to the course Sept. 17-18 as it takes part in the Cardinal Cup in Louisville, Ky.
