Women's Golf Signs Kristin Powers To NLI

GREENSBORO, N.C. UNCG women's golf head coach Sarah Sargent announced the signing of Kristin Powers (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) to a national letter of intent. Powers will join the Spartans for the 2013-14 season and is the first recruit for UNCG under the guidance of Sargent.

"I am very excited for Kristin Powers to become a Spartan next year," Sargent said. "She will bring an incredible work ethic and she has an untapped potential that will blossom as she moves south where she can work on her game year round. I believe she will be a great addition to the program."

Powers was a five-year varsity letterwinner at Pittsford Mendon High School for coach Joanne Leroy where she was named First Team All-Monroe County for three straight years. She was named the 2011 Monroe County Player of the Year and was a two-time All-Greater Rochester Area selection by The Democrat and Chronicle.

The 5-11 Powers helped the Panthers win back-to-back state championships in Section V. She played at the Oak Hill Country Club for five years with Craig Harmon as her swing coach. She won the Oak Hill Women's Club Championship in 2011 and was the age group winner of the New York State Junior Golf Amateur in 2011 and 2012.

Powers finished tied for second at the Future Collegians World Tour Newport National Open this past fall in Rhode Island. She was also a four-year varsity letterwinner in basketball for Pittsford Mendon, helping the Panthers win a Section V Class A Sectional Championship in 2011.

Powers is the daughter of John and Laura Powers. Her father John played lacrosse at Providence while her mother Laura swam at Colgate. She has a sister, Caroline, and a brother Matthew.
