UNCG moves up in womens soccer regional polls
GREENSBORO, NC – Following a perfect 2-0 week on the soccer field, the UNC Greensboro women’s soccer team has moved up in both major Southeast regional polls. The Spartans check in this week ranked eighth in the NSCAA Southeast regional poll, and are ranked ninth in the Soccer Buzz Southeast regional poll.
The Spartans (7-4-0, 3-1-0) opened the week with a 4-0 win over Appalachian State. UNCG exploded for three goals in the first 30 minutes of play highlighted by goals from Mary Kate Towne, Cara Hammond and Nicollette DeLaine. Dacia Beachum capped off the Spartan scoring with her third goal of the season in the 77th minute of play. Shannon Donovan, Karla Davis, Deven Beachum and Amy Carnell each collected one assist.
UNCG continued its winning ways with a 3-0 win over Elon Sunday at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. Deven Beachum scored her second goal of the season while Meredith Paisley and Carolin Feierabend each tallied their first score of the season. DeLaine picked up two assists on the day, giving the Raleigh, NC native a conference-leading seven for the season. Donovan and Carnell also chipped in with their second assists of the week.
The Spartans return to action Friday evening with a trip to Spartanburg to take on Wofford. Game time is slated for 7 pm at Snyder Field.
