UNCG's Corti, Player named to Southeast region teams
GREENSBORO, NC – Senior Jamie Corti and freshman Kristin Player have received 2007 Soccer Buzz awards for the Division I Southeast region.
Corti, a defender from Apex, NC, was named to the All-Southeast Third-team following a 16-5-1 overall, 10-0 SoCon season. She headed a defensive line that allowed just 19 goals in 22 games and captured 13 shutouts. Corti was also named to the 2007 Florida Atlantic University Classic All-Tournament team, the Southern Conference All-Conference first team, and the 2007 NCCSIA all-state team.
Player, a native of Placentia, CA, was selected to the All-Freshman Southeast Region team along with 17 other players. In her first year as a Spartan, she tallied 25 points (10g,5a) with two game-winning goals. She finished the season ranked 77th nationally in both points per game and goals per game. Player was also named the 2007 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and the SoCon Player of the Week. She was also selected to the SoCon all-conference first-team and the NCCSIA all-state team.
The Spartans rounded out the 2007 season in the midst of a 25-game conference unbeaten streak dating back to Sept. 24, 2006. The team also broke two UNCG women’s soccer records.
The squad set a new record in fewest away losses after not losing a single road game. The previous record of two was set in 1993 and 1996. They also set a new win streak record after winning 12 in a row to better last season’s record of 10. The team’s five losses this year tied the previous record set in 1989, 1990, 1995 and 2004.
