Kelly Attayek named SoCon Student Athlete of the Month
SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro sophomore forward Kelly Attayek was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Month for October. During the month, she was also selected the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week and women’s soccer Player of the Week.
The Raleigh, NC, native currently holds a 3.92 grade point average and so far in the 2007 has accumulated 21 points with eight goals and five assists. Attayek has also tallied 42 shots with 19 of those being on goal.
Attayek has seen action in all 17 regular-season games with nine starts. In the 2-0 victory over Wofford in late September, she scored both goals off assists from teammate Kristin Player. She also tallied the game-winner in a 2-0 shutout against Furman in mid-October.
In the conference, Attayek is tied for fourth in points with 21; she shares the slot with Player and Appalachian State’s Casey Cleary. With eight goals with season, she shares the fifth spot with Cleary and Katie Tucker of Furman. Attayek also holds the sixth spot in shots with 42 and assists with 5.
The Spartans hit the UNCG Soccer Stadium pitch on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm for the Southern Conference quarterfinal match against Elon. The winner of Sunday’s game will take on either fourth-seed College of Charleston or fifth-ranked Western Carolina for a 4:30 pm game on Friday, November 9 in Davidson, NC.
