Lopez takes NSCAA Scholar All-America honors

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - UNC Greensboro senior captain Lauren Lopez added to her growing list of accolades Friday, as she was named to the NSCAA/adidas Women's College Scholar All-America Third Team.

The honor is the second from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for Lopez in the last couple of weeks. The Concord, N.C., senior also recently earned a spot on NSCAA's All-Southeast Region Third Team.

The Scholar All-America selection is not Lopez's first national recognition this season. She was one of 10 national finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and was named a second-team All-American by the organization.

In October, Lopez was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America ESPN The Magazine All-District III Second Team.

Thursday, Lopez earned a spot on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association's All-State Team. She was also a first-team All-Southern Conference and SoCon All-Tournament Team performer this season.

Lopez scored five points on a goal and three assists this season and was part of a defense that posted 10 shutouts.

She won four SoCon regular-season titles in her career, posting a 38-2-2 league record over four seasons. Lopez was UNCG teams that turned in a 33-match unbeaten streak (31-0-2) over parts of four seasons.

To be considered for the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; and be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution or be in her second year at the current school if a transfer student.
