COLLEGE STATION, Texas - UNC Greensboro defender Lauren Lopez has been named to the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-America Second Team, the organization announced at the College Cup late Friday.
Texas A&M defender Emily Peterson earned the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, as determined by a nationwide vote of soccer media, fans and coaches.
Lopez was announced as one of 30 national candidates for the award in August, then made the cut to the final 10 in October.
She helped the Spartans to four Southern Conference regular-season titles in her career, as UNCG went 58-24-6 overall and 38-2-2 in the SoCon over the last four years. UNCG did not lose a regular-season league game for the first three years of her career, putting together a league-record 33-match unbeaten streak over that time (31-0-2).
The Concord, N.C., native was a three-time All-Southern Conference performer for UNCG, taking first-team honors in each of the last two seasons. Lopez was also a two-time SoCon All-Tournament Team selection, taking the honor in each of the last two seasons.
She finished 11th in school history in matches played with 84 and fifth in matches started with 83. Lopez was a third-team all-region selection by Soccer Buzz in 2008.
In the classroom, she was an NSCAA Scholar All-Region third-team member in 2008 and a CoSIDA Academic All-District III second-team selection in 2009. Lopez was a two-time Academic All-Southern Conference selection and has been on the Dean's List and Chancellor's List in each semester in which she was eligible.
This season, she totaled five points on a goal and three assists. She anchored a defense that allowed just 15 goals in 20 games and posted 10 shutouts.
Peterson is joined on the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award All-America First Team by: Elizabeth Betterbed, Army; Kelsey Davis, Portland; Blakely Mattern, South Carolina; and Kelley O'Hara, Stanford. In addition to Lopez, the second team includes Kristi Eveland, North Carolina; Theresa Ferraina, Loyola (Md.); Lizzy Nichols, Harvard; and Myra Sack, Dartmouth.
