24 Spartans earn Academic All-Conference honors for the fall season

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Twenty-four UNC Greensboro student-athletes were among a record total of 316 that earned Southern Conference Academic All-Conference honors for the fall 2009 season.

To be eligible for SoCon Academic All-Conference, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the fall season and must have competed in at least one-half of their team's competitions during the recently-concluded fall campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.

UNCG's Joey Thompson, a sophomore on the cross country squad who earned All-SoCon honors this past season, and Peyton Ford, a redshirt freshman on the men's soccer team, were two of the 10 student-athletes who had perfect 4.0 GPAs and earned the honor.

UNCG's men's cross country team had six student-athletes on the squad, while men's soccer had four, women's cross country had five, women's soccer had the most with seven, and volleyball had two.

League-wide, women's soccer was the sport with the most honorees, with 79 of the 316 student-athletes receiving the recognition.
