Kennedy finalist for W-League Rookie of the Year award
TAMPA, Fla. – UNCG freshman defender/midfielder Morgan Kennedy was one of three finalists for the W-League Rookie of the Year award, the United Soccer Leagues announced recently.
Kennedy, a starting defender for the Colorado Rush, was the only player on the first-year W-League team's roster to play in all 10 games. In fact, she played all 900 minutes of the season.
The freshman from Lakewood, Colo., scored one goal during the Rush's season, notching the equalizer in a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Force. She was part of a defensive unit that posted three shutouts and allowed one goal or fewer in seven matches.
The Rush finished the season 2-2-6, tied for third in the W-League's Western Conference.
Cherelle Khassal of the Santa Clarita Blue Heat and Rashidah Sherman of the New York Magic were the other two finalists for W-League Rookie of the Year. Sherman, also a finalist for league MVP, took the rookie award.
Kennedy and UNCG host High Point for an exhibition match Wednesday at 7 p.m.
