Hein named CS360 Primetime Performer of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG forward Lauren Hein has been named one of CollegeSoccer360.com's Primetime Performers of the Week for Aug. 23-29.
The Spartans went 2-0 on the week, knocking off No. 10 Wake Forest on Aug. 23 and downing Utah on Sunday. Hein was instrumental in the win over the Demon Deacons, as she scored UNCG's first goal and assisted on the game-winner in the Spartans' 2-1 win in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Hein, a sophomore from Torrance, Calif., is tied for second on the team with the three points she scored against Wake.
Players are selected as Primetime Performers of the Week based on any of the following criteria: the rank of their team and/or opponents, postseason implications of the game, clutch individual performances, overcoming adversity, or whether the performance was away from home.
In addition to Hein, this week's 16-member team includes student-athletes from Boston University, Cincinnati, Long Beach State, Louisville, Maryland, Memphis, New Mexico, North Carolina, Northwestern, Ohio State, Portland, San Francisco, Stanford, Texas A&M and William & Mary.
Long Beach State's Nadia Link was named the Primetime Player of the Week.
Hein becomes the second UNCG player to be named one of CS360's Primetime Performers of the Week in the last two seasons. Keeper Kelsey Kearney earned the distinction on Sept. 1, 2009.
UNCG, which has opened the season 3-0 for the first time in school history, jumped into the national rankings this week for the first time since 1998. The Spartans are ranked 18th in the latest Soccer America Top 25.
UNCG returns to action this weekend at the Under Armour Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The Spartans will take on Southern Cal on Friday and tournament host Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
