UNCG No. 20 in NSCAA poll, enters SoccerTimes.com poll at No. 22

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's women's soccer is up one spot to No. 20 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Hendrickcars.com National Rankings and has made its debut in the SoccerTimes.com Top 25 at No. 22.

This week is the fourth straight for the Spartans in the NSCAA poll. UNCG entered the poll for the first time since 1997 on Oct. 5, checking in at No. 24. The following week, the Spartans jumped two spots to No. 22, then advanced one more spot to No. 21 on Oct. 19.

After receiving votes in the previous eight SoccerTimes.com polls, UNCG finally broke in for the first time this week. Prior to this week, the Spartans had never appeared in the SoccerTimes.com poll, which is in its 14th year of existence.

UNCG is off to a school-record 15-1-1 start and is 10-0-0 in the Southern Conference. With wins over Western Carolina and Appalachian State last week, the Spartans clinched their fifth straight SoCon regular-season crown and the top seed in the upcoming league tournament.

The Spartans are currently riding a 12-match winning streak, matching the school record set in 2007. The streak is just the third of 10 games or longer in school history, all of which have come in the last four seasons.

UNCG's winning streak is also tied for the third-longest active streak in the nation, behind only streaks by Hofstra (16) and Stanford (14). UNCG is one of just nine teams nationwide with at least 15 wins on the year, and its .912 winning percentage is fourth in the nation behind only Portland (.944), Stanford (.941) and Hofstra (.941).

The Spartans are also ranked a season-best No. 16 in this week's Soccer America poll. UNCG is 28th in the latest RPI rankings, released by the NCAA on Tuesday.

UNCG completes regular-season play Wednesday at Elon, when it will try to close out its fourth unbeaten SoCon season in the last five years. The Spartans are 48-2-2 in league play since 2006, with both of the losses coming last season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Elon, N.C.
