When you put together a record like UNCG has this season, it is tough to stay "under the radar", especially as the Spartans ride a 16-game winning streak into the first round of the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship this weekend.
The Spartans are making their first appearance since 2007, although this year's senior class of Jenn Partenheimer, Katie Evans and Jen Rincon has compiled the best winning percentage (.773) of any class in school history. After experiencing the NCAA tournament as freshmen, that group did not want to miss out again in their final season, especially coming from a program that has made eight previous appearances.
"I think that really played a part in how our team approached this season," said head coach Eddie Radwanski. "Our upperclassmen and particularly our seniors wanted this because it is part of the tradition of playing here."
"We kind of just set the tone for the younger players that we have high expectations and we're not going to settle for anything less than that," said senior midfielder Jenn Partenheimer. "I think stating that at the beginning of the season and getting it in their minds that this is what we expect of a team helped us lay the building blocks for the season."
