GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's women's soccer team will hold its Blue-Gold contest at the UNCG Soccer Stadium on Sunday, with the instrasquad scrimmage starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
The contest will be the public's first chance to get a look a rookie head coach Steve Nugent's new-look squad. The Spartans, who went 19-2-1 and were ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation last season, lost six starters from 2010. UNCG welcomes eight newcomers this season.
"I'm looking for a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm," Nugent said. "Everybody is on the stage. It's the first opportunity to play 11-v-11 since we got here, so I'm looking for some good things."
UNCG's roster will be split into two teams, a Blue squad and a Gold squad. The sides will play three 25-minute periods.
"I'm really excited for that," junior midfielder Katie Durst said. "We haven't gotten to do any 11-v-11, actually playing. It's going to be exciting to see everyone together and playing."
