Durst tears ACL, will miss 2011 campaign

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG junior midfielder Katie Durst tore her right anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the 2011 season, coach Steve Nugent announced Monday.

Durst, a projected starter, injured the knee at practice on Aug. 6. She will have surgery over Labor Day weekend.

Durst was a key reserve during last season's 19-2-1 campaign, appearing in 19 matches with four starts before suffering a season-ending collarbone injury in UNCG's opening game of the Southern Conference Championship on Oct. 31 against Wofford. She scored two points on the season on a pair of assists.

UNCG returns to action on Friday when it will host Wake Forest as part of a doubleheader with the UNCG men's soccer team, presented by Sterling Cottages at West End. The women will play at 6 p.m., followed by UNCG vs. Duke on the men's side at 8 p.m.
