Player lands on CS360's Primetime Performers Honor Roll
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG forward Kristin Player has been named to CollegeSoccer360.com's Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll for games Oct. 3-9, the website announced Monday.
Player, a redshirt senior, had seven points on three goals and an assist last week, including scoring both game-winners as UNCG moved into sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference standings with a pair of road wins against The Citadel and College of Charleston – both of whom came into the weekend with winning league records.
Player's game-winners came in dramatic fashion, as they were both in the final seven minutes of games that had been tied to that point. Against The Citadel on Friday, Player's goal in the 84th minute capped UNCG's second rally of the day, snapping a 2-2 tie and putting the Spartans ahead for good with just minutes to play. Exactly one minute later, she assisted on another goal as UNCG added some insurance. The assist was her sixth of the season, matching her career high.
Two days later at CofC – which came into the match tied with UNCG for first in the league – Player scored both goals in UNCG's 2-1 win. Her 13th-minute strike gave UNCG a lead it would hold most of the day before the Cougars tied the game in the 84th minute. Player answered quickly, scoring her second goal of the day in the 88th minute to give the Spartans the win.
The Placentia, Calif., native moved into sixth place in UNCG history in career goals over the weekend and now has 31 to her credit.
Players are selected as Primetime Performers based on any of the following criteria: the rank of their team and/or opponents, postseason implications of the game, strong leadership/clutch individual performances, overcoming adversity, or whether the performance was away from home.
Joining Player on the Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll this week are student-athletes from California, Duke, Louisville, Winthrop, Stanford, Vanderbilt, UMKC, Purdue, Virginia, East Tennessee State, Florida, Fresno State and La Salle.
Player is UNCG's first selection to the CS360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll since Lauren Hein took the distinction on Aug. 31, 2010.
