Women’s Soccer to Collaborate with Give N Go Initiative
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's soccer head coach Steve Nugent has announced a partnership with the Give N Go project for the 2012 season, including a free clinic on Saturday, August 11 from 10 a.m. to noon held at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The free clinic is available to girls ages 5-13 years old and participants will take part in all types of technical skills associated with soccer. Skills will be taught by the UNCG players and coaching staff. All participants should bring their own ball, sun screen and comfortable footwear.
"The Give N Go project is a tremendous effort on the part of Amber Tollefson that is effecting so many young people in a positive way," said Nugent. "Amber has always been a shining example of teamwork and sportsmanship and is the most caring individual I know. She has put her heart and soul into making the lives of people less fortunate better through the game of soccer. Our UNCG team of players and coaches is proud to be involved in the Give N Go Project in 2012. This will be our most comprehensive community service endeavor to date. Please join us each home game and at our special clinic this Fall as we make the effort to collect as much gear as we possibly can."
The goal of the Give N Go project is to give women's college teams a platform to give back through soccer. The Give N Go project uses sport as a vehicle to bridge the gap of socioeconomic status by creating a team atmosphere, building self-confidence and instilling a sense of hope for abandoned kids. GIVE N GO donates used and new soccer gear while conducting clinics at orphanages abroad and foster homes in the States.
"The Give N Go project is a great community service platform for college teams to get entrenched in by giving back to the soccer community," said Amber Tollefson, who is the founder of the Give N Go project. "Coach Nugent has helped the project out tremendously by helping get the word out and as our director of finance. We are thrilled to have a college team involved and look forward to the UNCG women's soccer team helping out."
Collections will take place at every UNCG women's soccer home game and September is Give N Go awareness month, so a larger collection will take place on Friday, September 28 when UNCG hosts College of Charleston. The team will wear Give N Go shirts during warm ups during the whole month of September. For more information about the Give N Go project please visit their website at www.thegivengoproject.org.
