GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team hosts in-state rival High Point Sunday at 2 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The Spartans (2-3) finished last weekend with two tough losses against Kentucky (2-0) and Louisville (3-0) at the UK Tropical Smoothie Invitational in Lexington, Ky. The Blue and Gold look to bounce back against the Panthers and earn their third victory in the state of North Carolina. The Spartans defeated Wake Forest (1-0) and UNC Asheville (7-0) earlier this season.
Senior Cat Barnekow (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa JC) leads the team with two goals and two assists and has started four-straight games after coming off the bench in the season opener against Georgia. Senior defender Stephanie Partenheimer (Apex, N.C./Apex HS) has started 24-straight games on defense dating back to last season. Partenheimer was named to the UK Tropical Smoothie Invitational All-Tournament Team last week.
Freshman goalkeeper Jamie Simmons (Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) made nine combined saves against Kentucky and Louisville to also earn a spot on the UK Tropical Smoothie Invitational All-Tournament Team. Simmons has made 30 saves in five games and holds a 1.29 goals against average for the year.
