Hein Named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG senior Lauren Hein (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance) has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 3, the league office announced Wednesday.

Hein holds a 3.33 GPA in communications studies and has helped the Spartans to a 6-6 record so far this season, including a 3-1 SoCon mark.

Hein contributed to three of the four goals last weekend, including a two-goal effort against The Citadel last Sunday. Hein picked up her fifth multi-goal game against the Bulldogs, putting away the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. She made her first two starts at forward after 10-straight games on defense to start the season.  

The Torrance, Calif. native added an assist on the game-winning goal against College of Charleston Friday night setting up freshman Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) who put home the golden goal in overtime.    

The Spartans travel to South Carolina for a pair of SoCon games this weekend, facing Furman Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium. UNCG then takes on Wofford Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m. at Snyder Field.
