Women's Soccer Finishes Road Weekend with 4-0 Win Against Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The UNCG women's soccer team scored two first half goals en route to a 4-0 win against Chattanooga Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium.
UNCG continues its road dominance in the SoCon as the Spartans are unbeaten in their last 20 road games. With the victory, the Spartans improve to 11-6-1 overall and a SoCon leading 8-1-1 conference record. The Mocs fall to 3-12-1 with a 1-9 mark in the SoCon. UNCG picked up its fifth-straight shutout and will host a first round game in the SoCon Tournament next weekend.
Freshman goalkeeper Jamie Simmons (Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) picked up her seventh shutout of the season after collecting three saves. Simmons has pushed her streak of minutes without giving up a goal to a season-high 499:20.
The backline of UNCG continues to lead the way as seniors Cat Barnekow (Santa Rosa, Calif./Santa Rosa) and Tinna Bergthorsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Menntaskolinn Vid Sund) played all 90 minutes to complete their fifth shutout in a row.
The Spartans jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after freshman Katherine Rodriguez (Franklin, Tenn./Father Ryan) scored in the 21st minute. It marks the third straight game that Rodriguez has found the back of the net as senior Karin Sendel (Kiryat Tivon, Israel/Ort Kiryat Bialik) and junior Katie Durst (Raleigh, N.C./Athens Drive) were credited with assists.
UNCG added another goal in the 33rd minute as freshman Shelby Brown (Novato, Calif./Marin Catholic) fired home her first goal of the season. The Spartans finished the first half with a 9-to-3 advantage in shots and had three corners to just one for the Mocs.
In the second half, junior Nitang Jones (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road) found Rodriguez again for her second goal of the game and fourth goal in three games.
Nine minutes later, freshman Ashley Eddleman (Kernersville, N.C./East Forsyth) made a nice pass to classmate Zoe Fishman (Woodland Hills, Calif./El Camino Real Charter) who put home her third goal of the season to make it 4-0 UNCG.
The Spartans came out firing finishing with 17 shots and seven corners kicks, while holding the Mocs to just four shots.
UNCG finishes the SoCon regular season with a trip down the road against in-state rival Elon Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
