Guerra and VonStrolley move to round of 32 on Day 2 of ITA
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – UNC Greensboro's duo of Alejandra Guerra and Arielle VonStrolley advanced to the round of 32 in doubles play to highlight Thursday's second day of action for the Spartans at the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament on the campus of Wake Forest University.
Guerra and VonStrolley topped East Carolina's Brooke Walter and Varinia Soler by an 8-4 score to advance to the second round of doubles play.
VonStrolley lost her opening round match of the qualifying bracket, falling to Kentucky's Caroline Lilly. VonStrolley won the opening set, 6-3, before Lilly rallied to win the final two sets by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
Valerie Behr won her opening singles match in the qualifying bracket, but lost a second round match that would have put her into Friday's main draw. She beat Middle Tennessee State's Andrea Herrera, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3, in her first match of the day. But Behr lost later in the day to Neils Barringer of North Carolina State in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1.
Behr was also knocked out of doubles play on Thursday, alongside her partner Britney Cloer. They lost to North Carolina's Jocelyn Ffriend and Hanes Harris by an 8-1 score.
On Friday, Guerra begins play in the singles main draw and Guerra and VonStrolley continue play in doubles action.
