MALIBU, Calif.- UNC Greensboro's Alejandra Guerra rallied to win a three-set marathon that took more than three hours, topping Wichita State freshman Lutfiana Budiharto in third round pre-qualifying action at the Riviera ITA All-American women's tennis tournament on Sunday.
Guerra, the No. 13 seed in the 64-person pre-qualifier, lost the first set to Budiharto 6-4, but rallied to win the second set 7-6, 7-3 in the tiebreaker and took the decisive third set, 6-4, to advance to the qualifying bracket on Tuesday. With the win, Guerra is now 5-1 this season and has now won 22 of her last 23 matches going back to last February.
Ranked No. 114 in the ITA's preseason Top 125, Guerra will learn her Tuesday opponent when the eight pre-qualifier slots are drawn into the 64-player qualifying bracket on Monday. Tuesday's action moves from the Pepperdine campus to the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, CA.
