Guerra earns another win over ranked opponent at ITA

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – UNC Greensboro's Alejandra Guerra ran her mark to 7-2 on the season with a straight-set win over North Carolina's Austin Smith in a consolation bracket match at the Riviera ITA All-American women's tennis tournament on Wednesday.

Guerra, ranked No. 114 in the ITA preseason poll, has now won 24 of her last 26 matches after the 6-2, 6-1 win over Smith. Smith was ranked No. 76 in the ITA preseason rankings. The win was Guerra's third over a ranked player already this season – all of which have come against players ranked above her.

Guerra, a senior from Tampico, Mexico, will face the winner of the match between Long Beach State's Hannah Grady and Princeton's Melissa Saiontz on Thursday. Grady is ranked No. 64, while Saiontz is not in the preseason Top 125.
