UNCG's Dougherty named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC – UNC Greensboro freshman Lucy Dougherty has been named Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches from March 2-8, the league office announced Wednesday.

Dougherty went 3-0 at No. 5 singles last week and was 3-0 in doubles play as the Spartans downed Wyoming (6-1), Air Force (4-3) and Northern Colorado (5-2).  The Player of the Week award is voted on by the league's sports information directors.

The Melbourne, Australia, native picked up wins over Wyoming's Jamie Nelson (6-2, 6-3), Air Force's Samantha Sarkis (6-3, 1-6, 6-4) and Northern Colorado's Jodi Ciarvella (6-2, 6-2) at No. 5 singles where she is 4-0 this season. Dougherty, who helped the Spartans run their win streak to four, also picked up three wins at No. 2 doubles with Valerie Behr.  Dougherty and Behr have now won each of their last four matches as doubles partners.
