Rogers, Skripkina win twice on first day at USTA to make semifinals

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - Mikayla Rogers and Sasha Skripkina advanced to the semifinal round of their singles bracket to highlight the opening day of play for UNC Greensboro at the USTA Women's Tennis Collegiate Invitational.

Both are playing in Flight G and both won their matches in straight sets on Saturday. Rogers topped Columbia's Katarina Kovacevic and Caitlin Baker of Rutgers. Skirpkina topped Binghamton's Basak Gone and Ksenia Cheryshova of Fairleigh Dickinson to earn her semifinal slot. They could face each other in a final on Monday if they can win on Sunday.

Several other Spartans will play in consolation round brackets on Sunday, including Valerie Behr in Flight B and Jessica Eblen in Flight H. Three doubles tandems will play consolation matches on Sunday morning, as well.
