Spartans win 3 of 4 on rain-shortened opening day at UNCW
WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNC Greensboro won three out of four doubles matches before rain set in and washed the rest of the day's action away on Friday at the UNCW Women's Tennis Fall Invitational.
Lucy Dougherty and Valerie Behr won twice to earn a spot in Saturday's Flight A final. They began the day with an 8-2 win over Kateryna Chorna and Cameron Chatman of North Carolina Central in the opening round. Then, that was followed with an 8-6 win over Mercer's Anna Weislander and Priscilla Dias.
In Flight B doubles, Jess Eblen and Annette Rios will play in the third place match on Saturday. They began the day with an 8-0 win over Olesya Palko and Ashley Rogers of North Carolina Central. But then Eblen and Rios lost to Andrea Schutte and Angie Torres of Charleston Southern, 8-4.
