Davidson comes away with late victories to top UNCG, 4-3
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Davidson College won three-set thrillers at the No. 1 and 2 singles positions to turn back UNC Greensboro, 4-3, in Southern Conference women's tennis action Wednesday evening.
Virginia Berry defeated Alex Whitehead in the No. 1 slot, 6-3, 6-7 and 6-1, while Teresa Wang rallied to top Stephanie Macfarlane at No. 2 singles, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-0, to give the Wildcats the victory.
UNCG (7-7, 2-3) got singles wins from Mikayla Rogers and Annette Rios, both winning by identical 6-3, 6-2 scores at Nos. 4 and 5 singles to give the Spartans the 3-1 lead after claiming the doubles point. However, the Wildcats rallied by winning at the top three singles flights to claim the win.
The Spartans return to action on Friday when they host Samford for another conference clash. Start time is set for 2:30 p.m.
