UNCG signs Devon Sutherland to women's tennis NLI

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro women's tennis coach Jeff Trivette has announced the signing of Lake Wylie, S.C., native Devon Sutherland to a letter of intent to enroll next year.

Sutherland is a senior at Clover HS in Clover, S.C. Playing for the Charlotte Tennis Academy, she is ranked No. 8 in the state of North Carolina and No. 57 in the Southern Region in the 18-year-old rankings. She was ranked No. 5 in the state and No. 39 in the region two years ago and was the No. 1-ranked doubles player at the time, as well. She won the North Carolina 16-under doubles qualifier that year, as well.

"We are very excited about the addition of Devon to our program," said Trivette. "Devon has a very physical style of play. She is not only a very good tennis player, but a great athlete. I am sure that she will be a big part of our program's success in the Southern conference and at the national level for the next four years."

As a sophomore in 2008, she went 20-1 for Clover High and earned all-region honors, narrowly missing on regional player of the year. She was a starter on the team in eighth grade, playing No. 2 singles, and has been the No. 1 singles player ever since.

The UNCG women's tennis team resumes its season Feb. 7 against Winston-Salem State at 2 p.m.
