GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG women's tennis coach Jeff Trivette
announced Tuesday his squad's schedule for the upcoming 2010-11
season, featuring a fall doubles tournament at home and nine home
spring dual matches.
The Spartans battled through an injury-riddled season to finish
10-11 overall and 4-6 in SoCon play last season. UNCG's top player
Lucy
Dougherty missed virtually all of the spring season due to an
injury, causing Trivette to shuffle his line-up for the entire
spring. The Spartans will return five players from that squad,
including sophomore Anette Rios. Rios had an outstanding rookie
season, going 16-5 in the spring, including a 9-1 mark in
conference play. She finished the year with a 23-8 mark
overall.
UNCG opens the fall season on September 3-4 at the Davidson Fall
Invitational. That is the first of six slated fall tournaments,
including the All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades,
Calif. where the top collegiate players in the nation are featured
each year.
UNCG will also host the Spartan Doubles Challenge on Friday and
Saturday, October 15 and 16, as a final tune-up before the ITA
Regionals the following week. That will be UNCG's first official
appearance on their newly resurfaced courts on-campus.
The spring slate gets underway January 30 when UNCG visits
Virginia Tech. The Spartans will come back to Greensboro to host
Coastal Carolina the following Saturday (February 5) at Piedmont
Indoor Courts. The Spartans will play their first outdoor match at
home on Saturday, February 26 when they open Southern Conference
play with Chattanooga.
Eight weeks later the Spartans will travel to Chattanooga for the
Southern Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Championships as all
eight teams will return to the tournament this season.
