UNCG’s Wilkins named SoCon Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG's Nitooli Wilkins has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played February 21-27, the league office announced on Tuesday. 

Wilkins was a perfect 4-0 in both singles and doubles competition last week as the Spartans earned league victories over Chattanooga (7-0) and No. 74 Samford (4-3). 

Competing at the No. 1 singles position for the Spartans, Wilkins earned a three-set victory over Chattanooga's Jenna Nurik, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (14-12) to open the week.  She came from behind after dropping the first set to Samford's Taylor Morgan to earn a 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory. 

Wilkins is now 5-0 on the season at No. 1 singles.  

Teaming with Lucy Dougherty at No. 2 doubles, the UNCG pair came away with an 8-6 victory over Nurik and Shaina Singh of Chattanooga before claiming an 8-5 win over Andire Meiring and Rebecca Kirven of Samford.  The Spartans' No. 2 doubles team has now won each of its last four matches.

Also nominated for the award was Elon's Jordan Johnson, Furman's Monica Arguello, Georgia Southern's Alessandra Dzuba, Samford's Lindsey Mallory, Western Carolina's Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz and Wofford's Haley Baird.
