Wilkins named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG's Niltooli Wilkins has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 14-20. The Player of the Week selections are made by the conference office.

This marks the second time that Wilkins has earned the honor this season.

Wilkins was a perfect 3-0 in singles competition last week and went 2-1 in doubles play for UNCG.  The Spartans fell to UNC Wilmington to open the week, but rebounded with conference wins over Appalachian State (7-0) and Western Carolina (6-1). UNCG is now a perfect 4-0 atop the SoCon standings.

Wilkins won all three of her matches at No. 1 singles for UNCG and improved her record to 9-1 this spring.  After earning a victory over UNC Wilmington's Olga Blank, Wilkins came away with straight set victories over Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell (7-5, 6-0) and Western Carolina's Izabella Glinska (6-1, 6-4).

Teaming with Lucy Dougherty, UNCG's doubles pair went 2-1 last week.  After dropping an 8-6 decision to UNC Wilmington's Lindsay Leblang and Christina Lee, the Spartans' top pair posted an 8-1 win over ASU's Gisella Fernandez and Blakely Bean.  Wilkins and Dougherty ran their doubles record to 8-2 this spring with an 8-2 victory over Western Carolina's Glinska and Karen Jimenez.
