UNCG women's tennis announces 2012 spring slate

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Dates against North Carolina and Indiana and a home contest against defending Southern Conference regular-season and tournament champion College of Charleston highlight UNCG's 2012 women's tennis schedule, as announced Wednesday by coach Jeff Trivette.

The Spartans, who finished second in the SoCon last season at 15-7 overall and 9-1 in the league, open the season at North Carolina on Jan. 18. Four days later, UNCG will face Indiana in Durham, N.C., at Duke's indoor facility.

UNCG hosts its first match on Feb. 4, when the Spartans will take on UNC Asheville at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center. UNCG will host East Carolina at Piedmont on Feb. 11 before taking on Gardner-Webb at the UNCG Tennis Courts on Feb. 21. The Spartans will host one more match at Piedmont, taking on Richmond on Feb. 25.

A season-long eight-match road swing follows, starting at Longwood on March 1. Dates at UNCW (March 3), Coastal Carolina (March 7) and Charleston Southern (March 10) follow before UNCG gets into SoCon play at Samford on March 17 and Chattanooga on March 18.

The road swing continues at Davidson on March 22 and ends at Western Carolina on March 24.

UNCG returns to the UNCG Tennis Courts for the first time in more than a month when it battles Georgia Southern on March 25. The Spartans are back on the road at Appalachian State on March 28 before coming home for matches against Wofford (March 31) and Furman (April 1).

The Spartans' final regular-season road match will be at Charlotte on April 4 before they host CofC on April 7. Elon comes to town on April 10 as UNCG wraps up league play, while the Spartans close the regular season against Liberty on April 12.

The Southern Conference Championship will be in Charleston, S.C., from April 19-22.
