Women's Tennis Completes Final Day of UVA and Elon Invitational's

CHARLOTTESVILLE, N.C. – Senior Annette Rios (Santa Ana, El Salvador / Liceo Latinoamericano) and junior Dilara Yurtkuran (Istanbul, Turkey / Gunes Koleji) took home a Spartans victory in the consolation round of the B doubles flight winning 9-7 against Winthrop's Ekin Gunaysu and Caitlin Cridland at the UVA Fall Invitational, Sunday.

"We came in and played really well in doubles today," said heach coach Jeff Trivette. "We put a big emphasis on our doubles play and these guys raised their level this weekend. Overall, we had a great weekend."

Senior's Niltooli Wilkins (Burnsville, Minn. / Homeschooled) and Alex Whitehead (Victoria, Australia / Star of the Sea College) teamed up to defeat Darya Yakauleva and Olga Barshchevskaya from VCU, 8-5 in the fifth place bracket of the A doubles flight. 

In singles play, Yurtkuran retired in the second set against ODU's Ivana Vukovic due to a hurt back.

"I am disappointed for Dilara that she could not finish her match. She played well enough to win the event," Trivette said.

Wilkins won by default in the third place bracket of the A-2 singles flight.

Sophomore Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) picked up a singles win in the consolation final of the A flight 6-2, 6-3 against Western's Stacia Kissell at the Elon Fall Invitational, while freshman Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain / Newcastle Under Lyme School) fell to Allison Beeler from USC Upstate, 6-4, 6-2.

UNCG returns to action at the Wake Forest Invitational on Oct. 5-7.
