WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Niltooli Wilkins (Burnsville, Minn. / Homeschooled) led UNCG women's tennis with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Campbell's Karolina Chernaya in the A singles flight at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday.

"We had a very good second day," said head coach Jeff Trivette. "We have played a lot of tennis in two days, which is our goal for the fall events. To have kids playing for titles on Sunday is a bonus."

Classmate Annette Rios (Santa Ana, El Salvador / Liceo Latinoamericano) picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win against Louisville's Stephanie Villajuan, but fell 6-3, 6-1 to Karen Forman from Wake Forest.

Sophomore Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla. / Broward Virtual School) dropped her first match of the day to Louisville's Alex Tachovsky, but won in three sets in the fifth place bracket, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to Campbell's Natasha Afridi.

Freshman Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain / Tile Hill Wood School) beat Campbell's Ewa Telenga, 6-3, 6-1, but lost to Winthrop's Alice Garcia, 6-2, 6-3 in the E singles flight's semi-final round. 

Fellow freshman Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C. / East Chapel Hill) won 6-3, 6-2 against Georgina Pons-Cano from Richmond, but fell to Elon's Briana Berne, 6-4, 6-0. 

Wilkins and senior Alex Whitehead (Victoria, Australia / Star of the Sea College) teamed up in doubles play to take down West Virginia's Hailey Barret and Itkttesh Chahal, 8-5, before picking up an easy 8-0 win against Elon's Bryn Khoury and Barbora Lazarova.

Freshman Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain / Newcastle Under Lyme School) and Grinberg won in a close 9-8 (9-7) match against Richmond's Mariana Arana and Ripley Hartmeyer, before beating Navy's Mikaela Carlson and Tracy Thorsell, 8-4.

Play at the Wake Forest Invitational conludes Sunday, starting at 9 a.m.
