WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Senior Niltooli Wilkins (Burnsville, Minn. / Homeschooled) took home the finals championship title after winning 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) against ETSU's Antonia Kolovou at the Wake Forest Invitational, Sunday, Oct. 7.
"One of our goals going into this event was to finish as one of the top teams of the tournament," said head coach Jeff Trivette. "I feel that we achieved that goal with today's results."
Wilkins teamed up with senior Alex Whitehead (Victoria, Australia / Star of the Sea College) in the final round of the A doubles flight to take down Wake Forest's Kathryn Talbert and Kasey Gardiner, 8-4.
Freshmen Amy Ellis (Cheshire, Great Britain / Newcastle Under Lyme School) and Jamie Grinberg (Chapel Hill, N.C. / East Chapel Hill) also won their doubles flight with a close 9-8 (9-7) match against Richmond's Mariana Arana and Ripley Hartmeyer, before beating Navy's Mikaela Carlson and Tracy Thorsell, 8-4 in the finals round.
The Spartans return to action at the Charlotte 49ers Invite, in Charlotte, N.C., Oct. 12-14.
