RALEIGH, N.C. – The UNCG women's tennis team falls to NC State 7-0 on Thursday, Feb. 7. 

Seniors Alex Whitehead (Victoria, Australia / Star of the Sea College) and Niltooli Wilkins (Burnsville, Minn. / Homeschooled) lost with a close score of 9-8 (7-4) to Joelle Kissell (No. 33) and Tatiana Illova. 

Senior Annette Rios (Santa Ana, El Salvador / Liceo Latinoamericano) and sophomore Kayla Gammie (Port St. Lucie, Fla. / Broward Virtual School) dropped their doubles match against Nicole Martinez and Elisha Hande, 8-2.

Junior Dilara Yurtkuran (Istanbul, Turkey / Gunes Koleji) and sophomore Stephanie Falcon (Marietta, Ga. / Walton) played hard when they doubled up against Sophie Nelson and Chloe Smith, but fell 8-6.

In singles play, Wilkins dropped a 7-5, 6-3 match to No. 33 Joelle Kissell, while Yurtkuran fought in a three-set match, but Nicole Martinez of NC State took the win, 6-2, 7-5, 6-2.

Whitehead lost in a tough three sets to Rachael James-Baker, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, while Rios fell to Illova, 6-2, 6-3

Falcon dueled Hande and fell, 6-0, 6-2, while freshman Soumeya Anane (Coventry, Great Britain / Tile Hill Wood School) lost against Chloe Smith in a third-set tiebreaker, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2). 

The 0-2 Spartans return to action Saturday, Feb. 9, when they host Campbell at home. Play begins at noon.
