Sumney, Paley leads UNCG on day one of Tiger Paw Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. - Mike Koech and TJ Wyatt both broke school records on Friday night to lead UNC Greensboro on the first day of the Tiger Paw Invitational in the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.

Koech, running in the 5,000 meters, finished in third place with a time of 14:51.21. His time crushed the previous school record set two years ago by almost 16 seconds.

Competing in the 1,000 meters, Wyatt was edged out by just half a second as he finished in second place. His time of 2:30.93 broke the school record by almost six seconds.

On the women's side, freshman Shaina Sumney finished in 11th in the 1,000 meters and was just two seconds away from breaking the school record. Jenna Paley also had a nice run as she set a personal best with her run of 19:10.88 in the 5,000 meters.

The Spartans will resume competition on Saturday at noon.
