UNCG’s Schnell named SoCon Co-Runner of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –UNCG junior Ashley Schnell, along with College of Charleston freshman Dena O'Brien, has been named the Southern Conference Women's Indoor Track Co-Athlete of the Week for meets during the weekend of Feb. 4-6. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

Schnell, a Lincoln, Neb., native, finished seventh overall in the 3,000 meters at the prestigious Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.  Her time of 9:39.73 broke the UNCG school record by 10 seconds, and she leads the SoCon in the event by 20 seconds.

This is the second school record in two weeks of competition for Schnell as she crushed the school record by over 13 seconds in the mile on Feb. 5, at the Liberty Open.

The Spartans return to competition this weekend as they head to the Tiger Paw Invitational for a two-day meet beginning on Friday.
