UNCG’s Schnell named SoCon Track Athlete of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG senior Ashley Schnell has been named the Southern Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for her performance last weekend. The selections are made by the league's track and field coaches.

Schnell, a Lincoln, Neb., native, won the 800 meter race at the Dick Taylor Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina. The redshirt senior's time of 2:11.52 was nearly six seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Schnell's time also broke the school record, which she set last season at the Tiger Paw Invitational, by eight seconds..  

UNCG will compete in the Hokie Invitational this weekend in Blacksburg, Va.

Other top performers this week included:
Furman senior Erin Barker – Barker ran a 4:57.62 mile, breaking her own school record, at the Dick Taylor Invitational.

Appalachian State junior Sarah Williamson – Williamson ran the 5,000 meters in 18:07.25, which is a personal best. She leads the conference.
