GENEVA, Ohio and WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – UNCG's Paul Chelimo and Ashley Schnell each set new school records in the mile at the Spire Invitational, while Ginny Cronley did the same in the 5,000 meters at the Fast Track College Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Chelimo won the mile race in a time of 4:02.80. That time broke his own school record he set earlier this season by almost eight seconds.
Joey Thompson also had a good showing in the 3,000 meters as he ran an 8:08.59. That time set a new personal-best by seven seconds and is the second fastest time in school history.
Schnell came in third place in the women's mile at the Spire Invitational with a time of 4:41.08. Her time broke the school record she set a few weeks ago at the Hokie Invitational by almost eight seconds.
Cronley, running at the Fast Track College Invitational, shattered the old school record in the 5,000 meters. She earned runner-up honors after running a 17:42.10 to set a new school record by 35 seconds that was set six years ago by Heidi Pinkerton.
Kerry Hartman also had a nice day at the Spire Invitational as she ran a 9:41.30 in the 3,000 meters to set a new personal-best time by 32 seconds.
The Spartans will return to action on Feb. 23 at the SoCon Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
