BLACKSBURG, Va. – The UNCG women's track and field team concluded day one of the Hokie Invitational at Virginia Tech Friday evening in its second event of the indoor track season.
Freshman Eira Jensen (Holmveien, Norway / Scortland V65) finished 14th in her first collegiate 1,000-meter race with a personal-best time of 3:06.62. She finished behind North Carolina's Karley Rempel who won the event in a time of 2:52.90.
Classmate Katlyn Ayers (Strasburg, Va. / Strasburg) also made her first collegiate 1,000-meter debut placing 17th, posting her personal best time of 3:08.85.
Senior Chelsea Sumney (Washington, Pa. / Trinity) was the Spartans' top finisher of day one at the Hokie Invitational earning a fourth place finish in the 3,000-meter race, her first 3K of the year. She ran a time of 9:52.54 to finish 25 seconds behind Lianne Farber of North Carolina who finished first in the race.
Freshman Katherine Link (Avon Lake, Ohio / Avon Lake) also turned in a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter race, posting a time of 10:36.52 for her first collegiate debut running this race.
Junior Kelly Montague (Garner, N.C. / West Johnston) finshed 13th overall in the race with a time of 10:46.73.
The Spartans continue action in the Hokie Invitational Saturday at 11 a.m. with the final event set for 2:55 p.m.
