UNCG volleyball inks three recruits for next season
GREENSBORO, NC – UNC Greensboro volleyball coach Shawn Garus announced Monday the signing of Lisa Fawell, Catherine Hanners and Caley Redden as part of the National Letter of Intent program’s early signing period.
Fawell, a setter by way of Wheaton, IL and Wheaton Warrenville South High School, won 18 Club at Lone Star and Big South Qualifiers. Fawell also finished second in 18 Club at the Junior Olympics in 2005 was an honorable mention in the Dupage Valley Conference. She also plays for the Sports Performance Volleyball Club.
“Lisa will address our setting needs next year,” Garus said. “She has a lot of experience having played high school and club ball in the Chicago area. Coming from the Sports performance program, I know Lisa will be ready to play as a freshman.
A native of Richmond, VA and a product of Douglas Freeman High School, Hanners was named district and region player of the year as an outside hitter while helping guide her team to a state championship in 2005. Hanners also played for a Richmond Volleyball Club that competed at the Junior Olympics in 2005.
“Catherine is a very complete player at the outside hitter position,” Garus said. “She has a great arm and will be in charge of primary passing duties in our program.”
Redden, a native of Stokesdale, NC and a product of McMichael High School, was an all conference performer as an outside hitter for head coach Marty Woods and the Fighting Phoenix.
“Caley brings athleticism to the outside hitter position for our program,” Garus said. “She has quick feet and a fast arm swing and we are excited about her potential to develop at UNCG.”
