Finney earns All-Region honors by COBRA Magazine
GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG senior Kayren Finney was named to the COBRA Magazine Atlantic South All-Region Team this week, while junior Ariel Newman earned honorable mention honors.
COBRA Magazine's purpose is to celebrate the success of volleyball players of African descent in hopes of encouraging black girls across the country to pursue the sport.
This season, Finney led the Southern Conference with a 1.35 blocks/set average after recording 149 total blocks, 22 of them being the solo variety. Her 1.35 blocks/set average also ranked 15th nationally.
She finished her career at UNCG with a 1.16 blocks per set average, which stands first all-time in school history. She is also in the top-5 of the record books in total blocks and hitting percentage. She was also named to the SoCon All-Tournament team at the end of the season.
Newman was also impressive for the Spartans this season as she led UNCG with 348 kills for a 2.97 kills per set average. She was also third on the team with 336 digs, while recording 14 double-doubles on the season.
