The second set was close in the early going, as well, as the two teams were tied at 9-all. The Mountaineers then went on a 7-1 run en route to winning the set, 25-15, to tie the match at 1-1 going into the intermission.
Appalachian State carried that momentum into the third set as it jumped out to a 9-2 lead. The Spartans trailed 15-9 later in the set before a 7-0 run by the Mountaineers opened things up and they won the set, 25-14, to go ahead, 2-1.
The Mountaineers used another 7-1 run midway through the fourth set before winning the set, 25-15, to win the match.
The Spartans will wrap up their four-match road swing on Sunday as they travel to Western Carolina for a 3 p.m. match.
