UNCG’s Schnell named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG cross country runner Ashley Schnell has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for September 22, the league office announced today.
The Lincoln, Neb., native carries a 4.0 GPA in instrumental performance.
This past weekend, Schnell won the Elon Invitational individual title in her first race as a Spartan. The junior's time of 18:05 was the third-best 5K time in school history. Her performance also helped UNCG win the team title.
Other nominees included Appalachian State men's cross country runner Will Raby, College of Charleston volleyball player Elyse Chubb, The Citadel volleyball player Jessica Maas, Davidson women's soccer player Callan Elswick, Chattanooga football player Joel Bradford, and Western Carolina football player Rock Williams.
The Spartans will return to action this weekend as they compete at the Greensboro Invitational.
