UNCG to compete at Royal Cross Country Challenge on Friday
GREENSBORO, N.C. – After breaking both school records last time out, the UNCG cross country team returns to competition on Friday as the Spartans compete at the Royal Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
The women's 5k race will begin at 3:30 p.m. and the men's 8k race will start at 4:15 p.m.
Two weeks ago at the Greater Louisville Classic, Mike Koech shattered the school record for the men's team, while Ashley Schnell accomplished the same feat on the women's side.
Koech broke the school record he set earlier this season at the Elon Invitational by 25 seconds as he ran at 24:29.47. Schnell also had an incredible day as she broke the school record set back in 2003 by almost 15 seconds after running a 17:37.07.
For her efforts, Schnell earned the women's Southern Conference Runner of the Week honors before also claiming SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week.
Running for the men's team will be Tyron Alston, Brian Carrington, Andy Clyne, Ben Constantinides, Jermaine Coore, Taylor Day, Kenny Hinman, Taylor Hurst, Koech, AJ Savoia, Ryan Solomon, Joey Thompson and Ben Vasquez.
Michelle Chewens, Ginny Cronley, Jade Farlow, Tiffany Garber, Anna Grimes, Shannon Hall, Kerry Hartman, Kelly Montague, Jenna Paley, Schnell and Shaina Sumney will represent the women's team.
