Jon Hines enters his sixth season at his alma mater and his fourth season as the second assistant on Lynne Agee's staff.
A native of North Carolina, Hines has been an important piece of the UNCG's women's basketball program. Off the court, Hines is primarily responsible for game scheduling and underclassmen recruiting for the Spartans. He also has a large hand in scouting. On the court, he works extensively with the post players and was instrumental in the development of former Spartan and current assistant coach, KaLeah Latham.
Latham posted career numbers her senior season, leading the team in rebounds with 7.5 per game. She also ranks fifth on UNCG's single-season rebounds list and turned in six double-doubles during her final season in a Spartan uniform.
Hines was also active in helping former Spartan Meghan Chamberlain expand her game. In her sophomore year, Chamberlain posted 35 blocks, the most in a single season by a Spartan since the 2001-02 season. She finished her career at No. 2 on UNCG's career blocked shots list.
During Hines' tenure, UNCG has broken its team blocked shots record in each of the last four seasons. In 2008-09, center Agne Girstautaite set a new individual blocked shots record, as well, swatting 53 on the season.
"Jon has been extremely loyal and committed to our program," said Agee. "He has great experience and is an important part of our program."
Prior to being elevated to second assistant, Hines spent two years as the third assistant on the Spartan staff. He was in charge of the film exchange and helped with recruiting, game preparation and individual workouts while scouting upcoming opponents.
Hines also spent time at neighboring Greensboro College as an assistant coach. As a member of the Pride staff, he assisted in film exchange and was in charge of the perimeter players. He was a part of one of the top turnarounds in NCAA Division III during the 2002-03 season. Greensboro improved nine games in his first year on staff, finishing with a 16-9 record.
