Hardy enters his first season as a assistant coach with UNCG men's tennis. 

Former College of Charleston student-athlete Stephen Hardy has been named as assistant coach for the men’s tennis team, as announced Tuesday by head coach Jeff Trivette.

“Stephen has a great tennis background as a player and a coach,” said Trivette. “I love the enthusiasm and energy he has brought to our staff and our program. He is a very welcome addition.”­

Hardy recently was a teaching professional at the JoAnn Lee Tennis club in Charleston, S.C. Hardy earned his Business administration degree just last year after gradating from the College of Charleston.

Hardy played three seasons with the Cougars and earned All-Southern Conference second team honors in 2011 after going a perfect 13-0 in dual match play, including a 9-0 league mark at No. 6 singles. Also made second team in doubles with partner Tom Delme as the duo went 16-7 in dual matches with a 8-2 league mark playing primarily at No. 2 doubles.

In 2012, Hardy went 4-5 in dual matches but was 3-1 at No. 5 singles. In doubles, Hardy went 7-5, including a 4-1 record with teammate Billy Kenny. Hardy finished his career last season going 3-0 in dual matches and was 4-1 in doubles with teammates Cresente Lesser, Alon Faiman and Josh Record. 

Hardy started his career at James Madison and transferred to the College of Charleston after his freshman season in 2010. The Fairfax, Va. native, was ranked fourth in the state of Virginia coming out of high school and was 217th nationally amongst graduating seniors. Hardy helped lead Robinson high school to three-straight state titles.
