Men's Tennis Finishes Furman Fall Duals In Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C. - UNCG men's tennis wraps up the second and final day of this year's Furman Fall Duals, earning wins against the hosting Paladins, Appalachian State and Winthrop.

The Spartans opened this week's invite in singles play with hosts Furman, where Ollie Palmer clinched the first of his two individual victories in a straight set defeat of the Paladin third seed Jake Bhangdia.

Hugh Knapp and Logan Blaser would each record their first singles win of the weekend later in the afternoon against Appalachian State. While Knapp took down the Mountaineers' top-seeded Matvey Radionov by scores of 6-0 and 6-4, Blaser bounced back from a 6-3 loss in set one to earn a win over Landon Church.

The Spartans took five out of the seven doubles matches they played on Saturday, sweeping the Winthrop Eagles and taking two of four from the Mountaineers. The combination of Roger Rogowski and Alexander Zuckerman was near unstoppable on the day, taking down WU's second pairing by a score of 6-3, before doing the same to App State's number two by the same score.

Wrapping up the tournament with a doubles play draw against Furman and six singles matches against Winthrop, the Spartans came within just a few games of sweeping the Eagles, while Blaser and Cooper Wyett received their second winning decision together against the Paladins. Palmer, Nico Grewe, Rogowski, Wyett and Zuckerman all earned wins against WU to cap off the day, with the first four putting away their opponents in two sets.

Between singles and doubles matchups, five Spartans finished the two-day event with three wins overall, while Palmer delivered victories in two of his three individual matches.

COMING UP NEXT

The Spartans put their fall schedule in the books next weekend, competing in the UNCW Team Invite this Friday through Sunday. This will be UNCG's first trip to Wilmington since participating in the 'Battle of the Beach' in the 2018 spring season.
